Sailmaster Tavern

Sailmaster Tavern sits right on the marina at North Haven, known to regulars as The Saily. It looks out over the boats from a deck that hangs over the water, and it is explicitly dog friendly on that outdoor deck, not just dog tolerant.

The dog setup

Leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome on the outdoor deck and alfresco area overlooking the marina, which also happens to be the best seat in the house. Large shade sails cover the deck, so there is shelter on hot days. The venue puts out water bowls for visiting dogs, though staff appreciate a settled dog at the table rather than one roaming the rail. Weekends and sunny lunch services get busy, so time your visit accordingly.

The kitchen runs pub classics with a seafood lean: beer-battered fish and chips, local barramundi, chicken and beef schnitzels with toppings, and steaks and a roast of the day on the specials board. A self-serve salad and bread roll bar comes with counter meals, and weekday pricing makes it a regular haunt rather than a one-off. Sunset over the marina is the show if you book late enough.

The tavern is at 16 Arcadia Court, North Haven, on the marina. Free off-street parking is available on site, and it is easiest reached by car, a fair way from the nearest train line.

Close by with the dogs

The marina trail right alongside the tavern makes an easy on-leash wander before or after a meal, and Roy Marten fenced dog park at nearby Taperoo gives the dog an off-leash run. The Largs Bay and Semaphore foreshore, a short drive south, adds a proper beach walk, with The Breakwater Cafe Bar and Kitchen on hand in the village for other days.
