Local and Aesthetic

Local and Aesthetic is a cafe, gallery and retail space rolled into one shopfront at 769 Beaufort Street, Mount Lawley, built around WA makers, producers and artists. For dog owners it stands out on the strip for the right reason: the covered outdoor deck is a genuinely thought-through dog space, with hooks at the tables and water bowls already in play rather than a grudging footpath row.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on the covered, open-air deck areas at the front and side of the venue. Many of the tables have leash hooks, which removes the usual awkwardness of looping a lead around a chair leg, and water bowls are provided so you do not need to pack one. Staff have built a solid reputation for being good with dogs. The indoor cafe and retail area is off limits, so plan your visit around the deck. Between the cover, the hooks and the bowls, this is one of the more comfortable dog setups on Beaufort Street, and it works in cooler or drizzly weather too.

The vibe

The space trades on local: rotating art on the walls, retail stalls from independent WA makers, and a small gallery down the back, so there is plenty to browse on the way in or out. The brunch menu leans seasonal and creative, with chilli eggs, smashed avo and french toast among the regulars, and a serious coffee program behind the machine. Vegan options are on the menu. Weekends are busy and the deck fills early, so arriving before mid-morning improves your odds of a hook table.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking lines Beaufort Street and the surrounding side streets, though check time limits and expect competition during weekend brunch. If you would rather skip the car, the 950 bus stops directly out front.

Pepsi: Ask staff for a water bowl when you arrive, even if you do not spot one straight away. They are usually happy to top it up on a warm morning.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead run before or after brunch, the Inglewood Fenced Dog Park is a few minutes up the road and fully enclosed. If you would rather stretch legs on a trail, the Maylands Peninsular Loop gives you a riverside walk a short drive away. And if the coffee warrants a second round, Old Speak is another Mount Lawley option.
