Quade

Quade is a small neighbourhood coffee shop at Shop 1/2098 Gold Coast Highway, Miami, on the corner with Cronulla Avenue, and the kind of place that opens at 5am because the neighbourhood runs on it. Dogs are welcome at the handful of footpath tables out front, which makes it a quick coffee stop on a coastal walk rather than a long sit.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor footpath tables on the highway side. Water bowls often turn up, but the footprint is compact, so bring your own bowl as a backup and keep a calm dog on a short lead, since the tables sit close to passing highway traffic. It suits smaller or settled dogs who are comfortable with street noise and foot traffic.

Worth knowing

The menu leans towards specialty coffee, cold drinks, toasties and fresh, wholesome food, with homemade-style muffins and baked treats in the cabinet. Hours run from 5am to midday, seven days, so it is a breakfast-and-morning-coffee operation by design. If you miss the window, the suburb has plenty of other caffeine options a street or two back.

Getting there and parking

The shop sits on the Gold Coast Highway at Miami. Side-street parking on Dawn Parade or behind the shops is easier than fighting for a highway spot, and the beach end of the suburb is an easy walk across.

Close by with the dogs

Miami Beach is a five to ten minute walk away, though the sand is an on-lead outing with dogs kept away from patrolled areas, so treat it as a leash stroll along the foreshore. For a proper off-leash run, the fenced dog park at Pizzey Park in Mermaid Waters is a short drive inland, and the Burleigh Esplanade makes a longer on-lead walk south along the water. Another local coffee stop is Niche Espresso in the same pocket.

Max: 5am opens means my beach walk and coffee break happen before the heat arrives, and the toastie crusts are reliable.
