JUNI Cafe

JUNI Cafe is a small, warmly run local at 68/1 Kennedy Street, Maylands, with dogs welcome at the street-side outdoor seating. It pours Five Senses coffee and Little Matcha Girl matcha, and the house-made bagels and pastry cabinet have made it one of the peninsula's most talked-about morning stops.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor sidewalk tables out front, leashed; the indoor ordering and dining area stays dog-free. Staff have a reputation for being accommodating with canine visitors, but the cafe is compact and the space fills fast, so the footpath tables are the comfortable choice, especially at peak. There is no confirmed water bowl station, so bring your own on warm mornings.

The vibe and the menu

The food is the draw: cinnamon rolls and lemon madeleines in the cabinet, spring onion cream cheese and chilli cheese bagels, a miso mushroom melt, bacon and egg rolls, chicken toasties and sausage rolls, with matcha lattes and cold brew covering the drinks. Hours run 6:30am to 2pm Monday to Saturday and 7am to 2pm Sunday, so it is strictly a morning-and-lunch venue. A weekday morning or early weekend slot gives your dog the most room.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on Kennedy Street, a short distance from Maylands station on the Midland line. Free street parking is available around Kennedy Street and generally easier than the busier Whatley Crescent strip.

Close by with the dogs

The Maylands foreshore paths along the Swan River make the scenic post-coffee walk, and the Maylands Peninsular Loop covers the full circuit. Steam Haus on Whatley Crescent is the next-round option with a verandah, Grind @ The Rise is nearby, and the Riverside Gardens Dog Beach at Bayswater gives dogs a swim.
