Grind @ The Rise sits inside The Rise community centre and library at 28 Eighth Avenue, and it goes further than most on the dog front, with treats, puppuccinos and a wall of customer dogs.

The dog setup. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the outdoor alfresco area, while indoors stays for human diners. The cafe keeps dog treats on hand and serves puppuccinos, a small cup of frothed milk, and your dog might land a spot on their Puparazzi Wall. Water bowls are provided.

Good to know. The coffee is the headline, with fresh pastries, light meals and brunch plates like French toast. It runs as a genuine community meeting spot given its place in the centre.

A puppuccino and a treat on the way in, then a photo for the wall. This is my kind of stop.

Getting there and parking. The Rise community centre has its own parking, often easiest from the side streets, and it is walking distance from Maylands Train Station on Eighth Avenue.

Nearby with the dogs. There is a small grassy area beside the centre, and Bardon Park along the river is a few minutes drive for a proper walk.

Quietest on weekday mid-mornings. Good for social dogs who like a fuss made of them.
