Haven Eatery

Haven Eatery is a small counter-service cafe on Carrington Road in Marrickville's industrial pocket, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables. It is a weekday-lunch kind of place: a build-your-own plate inside, a quiet street and a shady spot for the dog outside.

The dog setup

Dogs sit with you at the outdoor seating under the lemon tree mural. The cafe runs on counter service rather than table service, so you order first and settle the dog while the food comes out. Indoors is not for dogs, and the street carries light industrial traffic, so bring your own water bowl and pick a table away from the kerb.

Worth knowing

The signature is the build-your-own lunch bar: golden roast chicken, slow-cooked meats, roasted vegetables, blanched greens and salads with house-made dressings from French vinaigrette to hot honey. Alongside it there are bacon and egg rolls, sandwiches, salads, poke bowls, the Haven burger, and specialty coffee. Hours matter here: 7am to 2:30pm weekdays, 8am to 2pm Saturday, closed Sunday.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in a business precinct off the Marrickville side of Carrington Road, easiest to reach by car with free street parking on Carrington Road and nearby streets. The industrial street is calmest on weekend mornings, which is when a relaxed dog gets the best seat.

While you're out there

For a proper walk, the Cooks River cycleway at Tempe is a short drive south, with the fenced Tempe dog park right on it, and back in Marrickville the cafes around Coffee Drip Cafe make a second stop easy.
