Yarra Valley Smokery

Yarra Valley Smokery is a casual smokehouse cafe at 96 Main Street, Lilydale, built around its own on-site smoker - you smell the barbecue before you reach the door. It is a meaty change of pace from the usual brunch menu, and dogs are welcome at the tables along the footpath frontage, making it a handy stop on the way into the valley.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables on the Main Street footpath; the indoor dining area is people only. Keep your dog leashed and settled close to the table - Main Street carries steady foot traffic. Staff are friendly and accommodating, but dedicated dog bowls are not guaranteed at every table, so bring your own collapsible bowl.

Max: the smoker aroma is a challenge test for any dog's manners. Order the dim sims early and everyone settles.

Worth knowing

The kitchen turns out slow-smoked brisket, pulled pork and chicken, plus the signature smoked dim sims, Reuben and Cuban sandwiches and hearty burgers, with all-day breakfast and strong coffee for the earlier crowd. Hours run from 6am on weekdays and 7am on weekends until 3pm, with Monday closed - it is a breakfast-and-lunch proposition.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on Main Street within walking distance of Lilydale Station, the end of the Belgrave line. Street parking runs along Main Street with time limits, and the side streets behind the strip are the backup when it fills. Being footpath seating, weather matters more than crowds here - a clear morning is the pick.

While you're out there

For an off-leash run, Lillydale Lake (North West) Dog Off Leash Area is a short drive away, and the Carrum to Warburton Trail starts nearby for an on-lead walk. the Lilydale General is another dog-friendly table on the same strip.
