The Brushy Creek connection of the Carrum to Warburton Trail runs through Mooroolbark between Taylor Road and Hull Road, a wide sealed shared path with green pasture on one side and suburban fences on the other. It is a leash-on walk shared with fast cyclists, not an off-leash run.

The walk. The Mooroolbark connection segment is roughly 1.7km between Taylor Road and Hull Road, on a 3-metre-wide concrete path. The grade is undulating and steep in parts, and it is a high-traffic corridor for cyclists, runners and walkers.

Leash status. Dogs must be kept on-lead at all times on the shared trail within Yarra Ranges. Keep your dog close and to one side, as the path is shared with fast-moving bikes and scooters.

Water and hazards. There are no reliable dog water fountains on this stretch, so carry your own. The main hazard is fast bikes and scooters on the narrow path. The trail borders pasture, so watch for snakes in the warmer months and be mindful of farm runoff near the creek line.

Getting there. Limited on-street parking is available near the Taylor Road and Hull Road ends in Mooroolbark. Local buses serve the Hull Road area.

Max: On a 3-metre path shared with cyclists, a short lead beats a long one; keep your dog on the side away from the bike line and step off when you hear a bell.

Weekday mornings are calmer than weekends, when cyclist traffic peaks. For an off-leash run instead, the nearby Hull Road Drainage Reserve is close by.
