The Sunroom

The Sunroom occupies a heritage spot on the grounds of the Congregational Church at 20a Alexandra Street, Hunters Hill, and the name does a lot of honest work: a sun filled patio and umbrella shaded tables in quiet, leafy surroundings that feel a long way from the Victoria Road traffic. It trades on coffee and an easy, community feel, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables.

The dog setup

Dogs settle in at the outdoor tables, while indoor seating is generally kept for customers without pets, so check with staff if you are unsure on the day. The patio is casual but shared with other diners, so keep your dog leashed and close. Because the tables sit on open church grounds with room between them, there is usually space to park a dog out of the walkways.

Worth knowing

Hours run weekdays only, 7:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday, with Saturday and Sunday closed, which surprises weekend walkers who assume a village cafe keeps Sunday hours. Confirm opening days before a long drive, as cafe hours here have been known to shift. The menu covers most dietary needs, and staff have a reputation for being kind, which helps when a wet dog is dripping under the table.

Getting there and parking

Alexandra Street parking is limited, as it tends to be in Hunters Hill's historic village core, so check the Hunters Hill Council car park signage close by if the kerbside spots are gone. On foot it is an easy walk from the Gladesville Road shops.

Close by with the dogs

A few doors away, Grey Grus Cafe is another dog mad local option, and down the hill CAV & CO. Cafe does the sidewalk tables on Victoria Road. For a leg stretch, the Hunters Hill walking trail threads through the peninsula's parks and water views, and Jenn and the barista sits near the Bay Run if you are extending the loop.
