Blackman Park Fenced Dog Park

Blackman Park Fenced Dog Park on Sirius Road is the biggest off-leash draw in Lane Cove West: two fully fenced enclosures, one for big dogs and one for small dogs, open 24/7 with floodlighting after dark.

The rules. Dogs run off-leash only inside the fenced enclosures. Keep them on-leash in the car park and on the surrounding paths outside the fence, stay inside with your dog rather than watching from the gate, and use the double-gate system properly so nothing bolts while it's open. Remove any dog showing aggression straight away, and bag and bin waste immediately using the bins provided.

What's there. Separate zones mean boisterous large breeds and nervous or small dogs are not thrown in together. The main enclosure has tunnels, ramps and jumps for dogs that want a workout, plus shaded seating for owners and on-site toilets. The Puppy Tail Cafe sits right at the park for a coffee while the dogs play.

Getting there. There's a large free car park next to the park at 33B Sirius Road. Buses on the 252, 254 and 285 routes stop nearby on Mowbray Road, a short walk from the gate. Lane Cove and Chatswood stations are the closest trains, but both need a drive or connecting bus.

Watch-outs. The grass turns to mud fast after rain, so bring a towel for the car ride home.

When to go. Sunday afternoons, Saturday evenings and Tuesday and Thursday evenings draw the biggest crowds. For a quieter run, especially with a timid dog, aim for a weekday morning.
