Hunters Hill

This is a 4.5 km easy circuit around Hunters Hill, the leafy peninsula suburb between the Lane Cove and Parramatta rivers in Sydney's inner north west, with Boronia Park as its green centre. Dogs walk it on lead.

The walk. About 4.5 km and graded easy, mixing quiet residential footpaths with bushland track through Boronia Park and glimpses of the water along the way. The suburb is hilly enough to feel like exercise without asking anything technical of a dog, and the surfaces stay good year round.

The rules. Hunters Hill Council manages this land, which is Crown land, and on lead is the general rule across its public areas. The council does designate off-leash areas within the municipality, but the boundaries and the hours are specific and can change, so treat the sign at the entrance as the authority rather than anything you read beforehand. Dogs stay out of childrens playgrounds, and off marked sporting fields while games are in progress.

Getting there. Parking is available at Boronia Park off Park Road, reached via Victoria Road. Sydney buses run along Victoria Road with stops close to the park.

Nearby with the dogs. Grey Grus Cafe and The Sunroom are the local coffee stops, and Ryde Park Fenced Dog Park is the nearest fully fenced off-leash run.

When to go. Mid morning on a weekday is the quietest window. Saturday mornings bring junior sport to the Boronia Park ovals and the parking goes with it. Good for seniors.
