Plant Room Cafe(Horsley)

The Plant Room Cafe is a social enterprise cafe at 116 Shone Avenue, Horsley, on the HammondCare site south of Wollongong, run by The Disability Trust as a supported workplace for people with disability. It trades 8am to 2:30pm Monday to Saturday and closes Sundays, and it is a quiet, community-minded stop rather than a destination cafe, which makes it an easy dog-friendly breakfast or lunch run for locals.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables on a lead and under control. Indoor seating is people only because the kitchen is a working commercial space. Water bowls are not formally listed, so bring a travel bowl and ask the team, who are generally happy to help. The outdoor area is calm and shaded, well suited to a settled dog while you eat.

Worth knowing

The kitchen turns out barista coffee and a rotating line of casual meals: warm wraps (lamb and zucchini or vegetarian), pasta bolognese, fisherman's baskets, light snacks and baked sweet treats. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable, and reviewers single out the food quality and the friendly, inclusive service from the trainee crew. Because it is a training cafe, expect genuine but unhurried service.

Getting there and parking

Shone Avenue runs through residential Horsley near the Princes Highway at Dapto, with street parking along the avenue and neighbouring streets. The HammondCare site also sits beside a children's playground, so keep your dog clear of the play equipment on arrival.

Close by with the dogs

Reed Park on Bong Bong Road is the local draw for dogs: a fully fenced council dog park with separate small and large dog zones, double-gated entries, agility tunnels and water fountains. Burn a lap there first, then head to the cafe. Further afield, Pasham Cafe in Dapto and Passionate Palate in Kanahooka are other dog-friendly coffee options.
