Reed Park Fenced Dog Park

Reed Park Fenced Dog Park on Bong Bong Road in Horsley is a purpose-built, fully fenced off-leash park run by Wollongong City Council, with separate sections for big and small dogs. It sits next to Reed Park's wider sports fields and has become the default meet-up point for Dapto and Horsley dog owners who want a secure run without going into Wollongong.

The dog setup

The park is split into two fully fenced zones, one for large dogs and one for small breeds, with a double-gated entrance so nothing bolts during arrivals. There is grassed open space, agility equipment for dogs that like a challenge, running water, undercover seating and waste bag stations. The small-dog section is worth using even for a confident medium breed when the big-dog side is packed.

Council's standard off-leash conditions apply: dogs stay on lead until inside the fence and on the way out, remain under effective control of someone capable of handling them, and never leave the enclosure in your absence. Close both gates behind you, bin waste at the stations, and keep dogs off wildlife. Restricted and declared dangerous breeds are not permitted in off-leash areas.

Worth knowing

The park is well regarded for cleanliness and dog socialisation, which says a lot about the regulars who use it. Weekend mornings, particularly Saturday and Sunday, draw the crowds. Weekday late morning is the quietest window, and because access is around the clock you can squeeze in a run outside peak heat in summer. This is a stay-with-your-dog park, not a drop-and-leave one.

Getting there and parking

The park is on Bong Bong Road in Horsley, easily reached from the Princes Highway around Dapto, roughly 15 minutes south of Wollongong. Free parking sits close to the fenced area. Dapto station is a short drive away, but the last stretch is not walkable-friendly, so driving is the practical option.
