Luma Coffee Club

Luma Coffee Club is a design-led cafe on Mitton Avenue, a couple of streets back from the Henley Beach esplanade, and dogs are welcome in the outdoor and footpath seating. It is better known for its coffee and its viral iced strawberry matcha than for the beach itself, which makes it a natural coffee stop folded into a coastal walk rather than a destination café in its own right.

The dog setup

Dogs sit in the outdoor and footpath seating area, not inside, in line with South Australian food rules. There is room to tuck a dog under the table and out of the walkway, and water bowls are typically provided, though bringing your own is the safe habit. The forecourt is open to the footpath, so an easygoing dog that copes with foot traffic settles best here.

Worth knowing

The menu leans healthy and fresh: signature acai bowls, smashed avocado, gourmet toasties and sandos, smoothies and cold-pressed juices, with vegetarian and vegan-friendly options throughout. There is no dedicated dog menu. The room is bright and busy, so expect a squeeze at peak times; wheelchair access and onsite restrooms are available. Hours are 6:30am to 2pm on weekdays, 7am to 1pm on Saturday, and the cafe is closed on Sundays, so build your weekend walk around that.

Getting there and parking

The address is 60-62 Mitton Avenue, Henley Beach. There is free on-street parking nearby, but spots fill fast on sunny weekends. It is an easy detour if you are already walking the coastal paths between Henley and Grange.

Close by with the dogs

Henley Square is about a five-minute walk, but note the entire square is on-lead at all times. On the sand, City of Charles Sturt rules apply: during daylight saving (October to March) dogs are on-lead between 10am and 8pm and off-lead outside those hours. If you would rather keep it beachside, the West Beach dog beach is a short drive south. For another coffee stop, Sunnyside Cafe welcomes dogs on its balcony and MALOBO Bakery & Terrace Bar on Seaview Road is the suburb's established dog-friendly terrace.
