MALOBO Bakery & Terrace Bar sits right in Henley Square at 257 Seaview Road, and it leans harder into being dog friendly than most venues on the Adelaide coast. The terrace looks over the beach, freshly baked dog treats are usually on hand, and the venue even runs a dedicated Instagram page for the dogs that visit. Doors open from 6:30am daily, with later trading from Wednesday through the weekend.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on the outdoor terrace and covered patio, not the indoor dining room. The patio offers shade, which matters on an exposed seafront in summer, and water bowls are provided alongside the dog treats. The square is busy and social, so a settled dog copes better than an anxious one at peak times; keep the lead short at the table with constant foot and dog traffic passing.

The food

It runs as a bakery and terrace bar at once: specialty coffee and pastries in the morning, all-day brunch through the middle of the day, and cocktails as the sun drops. Japanese-style fluffy pancakes, corn fritters, seafood chowder and the Cuban sandwich are among the dishes regulars come back for.

Getting there and parking

The address is 257 Seaview Road in the square itself. Street parking on Seaview Road fills quickly, so the larger public car park near the Henley Beach library or off Main Street is the more reliable bet. It is also a natural stop mid-walk on the coastal path.

Make a day of it

The beach is steps away, and under City of Charles Sturt rules dogs are on-lead between 10am and 8pm during daylight saving and off-lead outside those hours, so check the signage at your access point. For an off-lead run on grass, Grange Forest Park Fenced Dog Park is a few minutes north. Tables nearby include Joe's Henley Beach on the Esplanade and Sunnyside Cafe, which also takes dogs on its deck.
