Great Ryrie Cafe'

Great Ryrie Cafe is a small neighbourhood coffee spot on Great Ryrie Street in Heathmont, a short walk from the station, with a footpath strip out front and a backyard deck that dogs are welcome on. Reviewers rate the brunch highly.

The dog setup

The front footpath tables and the rear deck are the reliable dog-friendly zones. The cafe's own listing notes dogs allowed inside and out, but for a working kitchen it is worth confirming indoor seating with staff on the day. Keep dogs on a lead and settled, especially on the deck where tables sit close, and carry a water bowl just in case. The deck catches the morning sun, which is welcome in winter and hot in summer, so pick your table accordingly.

Reviewers rate the coffee and brunch highly: corn fritters, banana bread and the black pork benny come up repeatedly, along with a prawn chilli scramble and generous portions. Hours are 6:30am to 3pm weekdays and 7:30am to 3pm weekends. Coffee is a consistent strength, and the presentation gets regular praise.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking runs along Great Ryrie Street and the surrounding residential streets, and Heathmont railway station is an easy walk. Street parking turns over steadily, so there is usually a spot close by.

Close by with the dogs

The off-lead oval at HE Parker Reserve is a short walk or drive for a run before or after coffee, and the off-lead reserve at Knaith Road in Ringwood East is another nearby option. Heading further out, Bean in the Woods in Ringwood is another dog-friendly cafe.
