Extract Espresso is a fully licensed, all-day cafe in the Gregory Hills Business Centre at Unit 4, 1 Gregory Hills Drive, and it has quietly become the coffee anchor for this fast-growing pocket of south-west Sydney. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor and alfresco tables while the indoor dining room stays dog-free for food safety reasons.

The dog setup

Leash your dog and settle in at the footpath or alfresco tables. There is no pet fee and no strict time limit, though it pays to wrap up if the outdoor seats are full at peak brunch. Keep your dog off the chairs and clear of the walkway, and bring a water bowl of your own rather than counting on one being out.

The vibe and the menu

Regulars come for the Campos coffee, big breakfast plates, avocado smash and a solid vegetarian and vegan selection, with acai bowls and banana bread covering the lighter end. It is a popular weekend brunch spot, so outdoor tables can fill fast on Saturday and Sunday mornings; weekdays from 6am are the calm run. Parking is free on site and on the surrounding streets, reached easily off Camden Valley Way or the M31.

The fenced run at Gregory Hills Fenced Dog Park is the natural pairing, a short drive away with tunnels and seating for humans. For another coffee in the same estate, woof Grounds is the dog-named local option and Robusta Cafe sits on the same side of the suburb. The Gregory Hills and Gledswood Hills streets have wide footpaths that suit a leashed wander either side of the visit.
