Sammich Co

Sammich Co is a small sandwich bar at 22 Louis Street in Greensborough, a street back from the main shopping strip, built almost entirely around toasted sandwiches and coffee. It trades 7am to 3pm on most weekdays and 8am to 2pm on weekends, closed Mondays.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, and the team goes further than most: dog treats are usually on hand, and they have been known to hand over picnic rugs if you would rather take your toastie to a nearby park. The indoor counter is compact, so plan on sitting outside, and carry a water bowl to be safe. One person holds the dog while the other orders at the counter when it is busy.

The vibe

The toasties carry the reputation: the meatball sub, slow-cooked beef and pulled pork sandwiches and The Reuben, in portions that regularly surprise first-timers. There is a genuine gluten-free focus, and the coffee holds its own against the Main Street crowd. Lunchtime queues are the norm, so arriving before noon or after 1:30pm gets you an outdoor table and a park out front without the wait.

Getting there and parking

Louis Street parking is on-street and tightens around the midday rush. Greensborough station and the Main Street strip are both an easy walk.

Close by with the dogs

Pair the rug-and-toastie trick with Malcolm Blair Reserve's fenced dog park, Banyule Council's fully fenced off-lead space with double-gate entry and a drinking fountain with a dog bowl. Poulter Reserve is the other off-lead option, and Prelude Coffee & Bagels on Main Street is the alternative dog-friendly coffee stop.
