On Cowell

On Cowell is a casual, family-run cafe on Cowell Street in Gladesville with an alfresco area that is genuinely set up for dogs rather than merely tolerant of them. Staff are known to bring out water bowls and the occasional puppacino, and the free public carpark directly out front makes it one of the easier Sydney cafes to pull up to with a dog in the back seat.

The dog setup

Dogs join you in the outdoor alfresco section, where tables are cleaned down between sittings and there is enough room to settle a dog underfoot. Standard cafe manners apply: lead on, dog close to your chair, and no indoor dining under NSW health rules. Water bowls are usually available but worth confirming at busy times.

The vibe and the menu

The kitchen leans towards a nourishing breakfast menu: potato rosti, eggs benedict and ricotta hotcakes get called out often, with a wagyu burger and steak sandwich covering the lunch shift, and a soft shell crab roll for something different. Coffee is strong and consistent, and the feel is community-minded, friendly to prams as well as dogs. Hours run 7am to 3pm every day.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits near the Cowell Street and Victoria Road intersection, with free three-hour parking in the public carpark directly in front. Victoria Road is busy, so hold the lead tight on the footpath and cross at the lights. Weekday mornings are the calmest window.
