Vines at Limberlost

Vines at Limberlost is a cafe set inside the Limberlost Garden Centre on Old Smithfield Road in Freshwater, north of Cairns. Your dog is welcome at the open-air tables, surrounded by tropical plants and water features, which makes this one of the more scenic coffee settings in the Cairns area for anyone with a dog on the back seat.

The dog setup

Dogs sit alongside you in the shaded, casual outdoor seating area on a leash. Staff have a dog-friendly reputation and a puppaccino may appear if the barista is in the mood, and well-behaved leashed dogs can generally accompany you while you browse the nursery afterwards. The open-air layout means plenty of space between tables, which helps if your dog needs a bit of room to settle.

Worth knowing

The menu runs wider than a garden-centre cafe: eggs benedict through to Thai curry and steaks, with a serious cake cabinet and a three milk cake that gets named in reviews. It is coeliac-friendly, and live music features on some Sundays. Weekend brunch fills up, so booking ahead is the safe play if you want a courtyard table rather than a wait.

The address is 113 Old Smithfield Rd, Freshwater, open 8am to 4pm daily. There is a large free on-site car park and the venue is wheelchair accessible, so access is easy even with a dog and a boot full of beach gear.

Close by with the dogs
