Arkarra Gardens Café Restaurant

Arkarra Gardens Cafe Restaurant sits at 28/34 Panorama Drive, Dundowran Beach, on the quiet western side of Hervey Bay, set in two acres of landscaped rainforest gardens with lagoons, lily ponds and private Bali huts. It is a dog-friendly table with real room to spread out: leashed dogs are welcome across the outdoor and undercover verandah seating, and the venue opens 6:30am to 4pm every day of the week.

The dog setup

Dogs stay on lead in the alfresco and covered verandah areas. Tables are spaced well apart, so there is room for a dog to settle beside your chair rather than under it, and the staff keep water on hand for visiting pups. There is no dedicated dog menu. Keep leads on throughout, because the gardens double as a sanctuary for the resident birdlife. The complex is wheelchair accessible from parking through to restrooms.

The food and the setting

Breakfast, brunch and lunch run all day, with barista Seven Miles espresso and T2 teas. The homemade scones with jam and cream are the signature order, and the prawn and mango salad is the lunch dish reviewers keep naming. Gourmet burgers, tapas and a wide spread of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options round out the menu. Birdwatching comes with the table, with herons and honeyeaters working the waterways.

Beach time before brunch

Dundowran Beach's foreshore is the closest sand to Panorama Drive. Under Fraser Coast Council rules the section from Sawmill Road to Ansons Road runs off-leash from 3pm to 8am and on-leash through the middle of the day, with the stretch toward Point Vernon off-leash around the clock. Dogs must be under effective voice control and cleaned up after, and on-site signage rules on shorebird nesting override the general map.

Close by with the dogs

The Arkarra Lagoons loop is on the doorstep, a 2.1 km on-lead circuit through the wetlands next door.
