Arkarra Gardens Cafe Restaurant sits in a bush-garden setting on Panorama Drive in Dundowran Beach, and it is one of the more relaxed dog-friendly dining options on the Fraser Coast: dogs are welcome throughout the outdoor and undercover verandah seating, on lead, surrounded by lawns, gardens and resident birdlife.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the expansive alfresco and covered verandah areas rather than indoors. Tables are spaced out with plenty of room for a dog to settle underfoot or beside your chair. Staff are generally accommodating and will provide a water bowl on request, but bring your own bowl if your dog is fussy about sharing. Keep dogs leashed throughout, as the gardens attract a lot of birdlife the venue wants left undisturbed.

Known for. The bushland and garden setting is the drawcard, along with generous breakfast and lunch serves and regular live music on weekends. It is as much a nature outing as a meal.

Getting there and parking. The cafe is at 28/34 Panorama Drive, Dundowran Beach, about a 10 to 15 minute drive from central Hervey Bay. There is on-site gravel car parking right outside.

Nearby with the dogs. Dundowran Beach itself is a short drive away and has both on-leash and off-leash sections. Arkarra Lagoons, the wetlands walking trail next door, makes an easy pre- or post-coffee leg-stretch.

A garden table with birds overhead and a water bowl on the way is about as good as a cafe stop gets, just keep the leash on so the birds stay part of the view and not the entertainment.

Go on a weekday morning if you want the garden quiet; weekends bring live music and a bigger crowd. Confirm current dog rules directly with the cafe before a special-occasion visit, as outdoor dining policies can shift seasonally.
