Desert Rose Cafe

Desert Rose Cafe is a small Lebanese cafe at 302-304 Liverpool Street in Darlinghurst, turning out freshly made sandwiches, grills and dips at fair prices from long hours: 5am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. Dogs are welcome at the footpath tables out front, which makes it a no-fuss lunch stop for anyone walking the inner-east streets with a dog.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor seating along the Liverpool Street footpath, and staff are friendly and happy to bring out water for your dog. Seating out front is limited, so it suits a quick bite rather than a long, lingering meal, and being on a working street it pays to keep your dog settled close while passers-by and other dogs go past. Under City of Sydney rules dogs are kept on leash in public spaces anyway, and within 10 metres of outdoor dining your dog stays on lead.

On the menu

The kitchen is Lebanese at heart: kafta, fresh tabouleh, and proper dips including hummus, baba ghanouj and toum, plus mixed grill platters and stacked sandwiches. Cafe classics and pastries cover the earlier hours, which start at 5am on weekdays for the early shift and the sunrise coffee crowd. It is well rated, and value is part of the draw in a stretch of Darlinghurst where lunch prices climb quickly.

Getting there and parking

Street parking on Liverpool Street and the surrounding blocks is busy and metered, so most visitors arrive on foot or by public transport. The cafe sits between Oxford Street and Hyde Park, a short walk from Museum and Town Hall stations, and the 333 and 373 buses along Oxford Street stop nearby.

Close by with the dogs

Rosebank Park offers a small green patch for a quick leash-on leg stretch nearby, and Frog Hollow Reserve in Surry Hills is a short stroll east for a bigger grassy break. For another coffee in the same block, Cafe Nas is a Darlinghurst neighbour worth a look.
