Chapter E

Chapter E is a compact Middle Eastern cafe on the Darlinghurst Road strip near the Burton Street corner, close enough to Kings Cross station to make it a car-free coffee run. The kitchen's shawarma, shakshuka and malawach have made it a name in the neighbourhood, and the footpath tables out front take dogs.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the alfresco tables on Darlinghurst Road only. The footpath area is small, a handful of tables, so it works best with a dog that will settle beside the chair rather than patrol. Staff are happy to bring out a water bowl. Indoor seating is off limits, so this is a fine-weather stop.

Worth knowing

Order around the Israeli-leaning menu: falafel, sabich, hummus and fresh pita, plus well-regarded coffee and pastries. It runs from early morning to mid afternoon, and the tight interior means the footpath is where the atmosphere is anyway. Brunch hours get busy, so a mid-morning or early-afternoon visit is easier with a dog in tow.

Getting there and parking

Kings Cross station is a short walk away, which is the sensible way in. Metered street parking on Darlinghurst Road is scarce; try Burton or Victoria Street for limited 1P and 2P spots if you must drive.

Close by with the dogs

Rosebank Park is a few minutes down the hill for a stretch of grass, and the Darlinghurst Road strip itself suits a slow on-lead wander. For another coffee stop in the same patch, Cafe Nas is nearby, and Taphouse Sydney covers the dog-friendly pub end of the strip.
