Blackwall Cafe

Blackwall Cafe sits at 45 Blackwall Point Road in Chiswick, a quiet riverside pocket on the Parramatta River in Sydney's inner west. It is a neighbourhood breakfast and lunch spot with outdoor seating that looks back towards the water and the city skyline, and it has become a regular stop for local dog owners out along the foreshore.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor footpath tables, where shade is usually on offer and staff regularly bring out water bowls. Keep your dog leashed and settled at your feet; the indoor area is off limits to animals, in line with the NSW Food Authority's rules for food premises. The footpath setup works best for calm, lead-side dogs, and the street stays quiet enough that most visits end up being an easy sit-and-stay.

The vibe

The menu goes beyond standard cafe fare: the bulgogi burger and teriyaki chicken are the plates regulars come back for, the wraps and breakfasts are generous, and the mango passionfruit crush is the drink worth ordering on a warm morning. The mocha gets steady praise too. Service leans warm and chatty, and the whole place has a local-club feel rather than a destination-cafe one.

Getting there and parking

Hours are 7am to 3pm Monday, Wednesday through Saturday, 7:30am to 3pm Sunday, and closed Tuesdays. Street parking is available on Blackwall Point Road and the surrounding streets, but check signs for time limits. Aim for a mid-morning weekday table if you want the outdoor seats without a wait.

While you're out there

The Parramatta River walkways and Chiswick Park are close by, so a meal pairs easily with a proper leg stretch. The council's designated off-leash area at Wire Mill Park sits on the foreshore next to the Chiswick Community Centre, and the fenced Battersea Off Leash Dog Park in Abbotsford is a short drive up the river. If you would rather make a longer outing of the Bay Run, Bay Run Coffee & Bistro at Rodd Point is another dog-friendly stop along the water.
