Cooks Cafe is a family-run coffee spot on Canterbury Road, a short walk from Canterbury station, and dogs are genuinely welcome in the outdoor seating out front.

The dog setup. Dogs are allowed at the outdoor tables along the front and side of the cafe. The owners have called dogs out as one of their specialties on their own social media, and they put out water bowls and treats for four-legged customers. Bring your own bowl as backup if you are visiting at a busy time.

Known for. Generous breakfast and lunch portions, solid espresso, and friendly, polite staff, all called out repeatedly in reviews.

Getting there. Street parking on Canterbury Road can get busy; there is rear parking nearby as a backup. Canterbury railway station on the T3 line is an easy walk, so it works well as a stop before or after a park visit.

Nearby with the dogs. Leslie Muir Reserve, a fully fenced off-leash park on the Cooks River, is a short walk away, and the Cooks River foreshore path gives you a longer on-leash walk in either direction.

A solid stop for a coffee and a feed either side of a walk along the river, keep your dog leashed and beside your table since it is a working footpath cafe, not a fenced yard.
