The short version. The Sweet Spot Whitsundays is a family-run bakery and cafe at Coral Sea Marina, Cannonvale, with water views and a proper welcome for dogs. It is a handy stop before a marina boardwalk stroll or a day on the water.

The dog setup. Dogs sit beside you in the open-air and outdoor seating, and they are encouraged right up to the counter to place their order. There are complimentary water bowls, house-made peanut butter biscuits for dogs, and puppuccinos.

Good to know. The cabinet is the draw: croissants, danishes, pies, sausage rolls, muffins and custom cakes, with Paradox coffee. Open daily from 6:30am, with closing times varying between late morning and mid-afternoon, so it suits an early feed.

Getting there. Shop 3a, 62 Shingley Drive, inside Coral Sea Marina. There is paid and free marina parking, which gets busy in peak tourist season. You can also walk or ride in along the seaside boardwalk from Airlie Beach.

Nearby with the dogs. The Bicentennial Walkway passes near the marina and links Cannonvale to Airlie Beach on leash. Cannonvale Beach, a short drive away, has an off-leash window at its eastern end early and late in the day.

Get in early for the best pick of the cabinet, sit outside with the water view, and walk it off along the marina boardwalk after.
