Tom & Andy's Espresso Van

Tom & Andy's Espresso Van parks on the Caloundra coastal walkway at 44A Maloja Avenue, just past the Coast Guard station and beside the BIG4 holiday park, with Bulcock Beach and the Pumicestone Passage as the view. It runs 6am to 1pm every day, built for walkers doing the Happy Valley to Kings Beach stretch with a dog on the end of the lead.

The dog setup. This is one of the Sunshine Coast's properly dog-catering coffee stops: the van stocks puppacinos, dog biscuits and dog jerky alongside the human menu, and the open-air setup means dogs are welcome at your feet the whole time. Keep the lead on, because the walkway is shared with bikes, prams and holiday crowds. The Happy Valley green space next door gives the dog somewhere settled to sit off the path.

What to order. Locally roasted specialty coffee is the draw, with the Mambo black blend on sale as beans if the first cup converts you. Smoothies, toasties, fruit toast and pastries cover the food side, all takeaway-friendly for eating on the grass or walking on.

Max: A puppacino on the headland with the tide coming in beats any seat indoors. I rate the jerky five bowls.

Getting there. Street and public parking sit near Happy Valley, which fills on weekend mornings. The better arrival is on foot along the coastal path from Bulcock Beach or Kings Beach, coffee at the halfway mark of the walk. Van hours can shift seasonally, so check their Facebook or Instagram before a special trip.

While you're out there. Keep walking south-west to the Currimundi dog off leash beach for a proper run off lead, or north to Coochin Park dog off leash area.
