TwinFins Espresso Bar

TwinFins Espresso Bar sits at the Point Cartwright end of Buddina, where the morning crowd is locals with dogs rather than tourists with bodyboards.

It opens at 6am sharp - earlier than most of the Sunshine Coast bothers to - and the first hour belongs to the lead-and-flat-white set: swimmers back from the beach, tradies before the run up Kawana way, and dog walkers easing into the headland loop.

The counter keeps a short list and does it well: bagels with proper fillings, acai bowls for the warm months, and a pastry case that empties before mid morning.

The salmon bagel is the one people come back for, and the almond croissant has its own regulars.

The caramel tart, when it is on the board, tends not to see the afternoon. Staff move fast without making you feel moved along, which matters when one hand is on a coffee and the other is on a lead.

The dog setup

Dogs settle at the outdoor tables, and this is one of the more confident dog welcomes on the coast: the cafe lists itself as dog friendly on its Google profile, and Bree, the cafe owner has told PawScapes directly that the cafe is very dog friendly.

It is still fair to treat the detail as reported practice rather than written policy - keep the lead short, pick an outside table, and let staff wave you where they want dogs.

Mornings work best both for the cool air and for the pre-noon rush; by the time the bagels run down you and the dog will have the pick of the tables anyway.

Point Cartwright starts here

The real draw is what sits either side of the cafe. The Point Cartwright Walkway starts effectively at the door, running the headland past the lighthouse with the shipping channel below, and whale season gives it a second act from June to November.

For a proper run, the Buddina dog off-leash area (accesses 210 to 217) is minutes away and ends the morning the right way.

La Balsa Park, where the Mooloolah River meets the sea, rounds out the loop if you want flat grass and a view of the boats.
