Staple Kitchen

Staple Kitchen is a small, two-sided spot on Victoria Street, Brunswick: neighbourhood eatery by day, wine bar with vinyl DJs once the sun goes down. The dog-friendly footprint is the compact seating out front, so think of it as a quality quick stop with the dog rather than a long lunch venue.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the small outdoor tables out the front of the venue. As a little licensed venue, the indoors stays people-only, and the footpath run is tight, so a dog that tucks in close to the table works best. Water bowls are common at Brunswick venues but not guaranteed here, so bring your own. The footpath is busy with passing traffic from Sydney Road, keep the lead short.

The food and the vibe

The kitchen leans creative: toasties done properly, a fish finger sandwich, beef cheek toastie, hummus and oysters, with a cookie for the road. The drinks list goes deep on natural wine and local craft beer, which tells you what kind of place this becomes after dark. Vinyl DJs play from 6pm on Friday and Saturday, and the room turns lively and loud, so day visits are the dog-friendly window.

Getting there

It is a short walk from the 19 tram on Sydney Road. Street parking on Victoria Street and the side streets is competitive at most hours, so arriving on foot or by tram with the dog is the easier play.

Close by with the dogs

Sydney Road is right there for a leashed stroll, and for proper off-leash time the reserves off Brunswick East are close by. Among neighbours on the directory, A Minor Place. and Lux Foundry both do the outdoor-table thing with dogs, and Edinburgh Castle Hotel covers the pub end of Sydney Road.
