Staple Kitchen is a small neighbourhood spot on Victoria Street, Brunswick, part wine bar, part eatery, with vinyl DJs on weekends. The dog-friendly area is the compact seating out front, so it suits a quick stop more than a long lunch with a dog.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the small outdoor seating area out the front. As a little licensed venue, dogs are kept to the outdoor tables. Water bowls are common at Brunswick venues but not guaranteed here, so bring your own. Keep the dog leashed; the footpath is busy.

Good to know. The kitchen does creative plates, toasties, hummus and oysters, with a deep list of natural wine and local craft beer. Vinyl DJs play Friday and Saturday from 6pm, which makes for a lively, loud evening.

Getting there. Short walk from the 19 tram on Sydney Road. Street parking on Victoria Street and side streets is competitive, so allow time.

Nearby with the dogs. Gilpin Park is a short walk for a proper run, and Sydney Road is right there for a leashed stroll.

Calmer in the afternoon before the DJ sets start. Best for a confident dog that handles a busy, bustling spot.
