Cup O' Joy

Cup O' Joy is a small, cosy cafe at 1/2 Queensland Avenue in the middle of Broadbeach, a couple of blocks back from the beachfront and close to Oracle Boulevard. It is the kind of compact neighbourhood room where the baristas get to know the regulars by name and order, and it leans into dogs: outdoor footpath seating, and dog biscuits usually offered alongside the coffee.

The dog setup

Dogs sit with you at the outdoor footpath tables on Queensland Avenue, one of the busier walking strips in the suburb, so a settled dog used to foot traffic will do well here. Water bowls are usually on hand and staff are welcoming, though bringing your own bowl is a safe bet on crowded mornings. The inside space is genuinely small, so the footpath tables are the dog spot.

The vibe and the menu

The kitchen is well reviewed for its big'Joy breakie, loaded bacon and egg rolls, pancakes and a chilli scramble, with a solid vegan and vegetarian range. Coffee runs on rotating specialty roasts rather than a single house blend, with seasonal drinks like strawberry matcha getting a run on socials. It is a mornings operation: doors open at 6am and the kitchen wraps early-to-mid afternoon, around 2pm, so plan dogs-and-coffee before lunch.

Getting there and parking

Paid street parking runs along Queensland Avenue with more metered spots on the surrounding blocks, and the G:link light rail and broadbeach South bus station are both an easy walk. Underground parking at The Oracle is nearby if the street is full.

Make a day of it

Kurrawa Park is a two-minute walk east, but note that only the designated off-leash zone inside adjoining Pratten Park, south of the surf club, allows dogs off lead; the rest of Kurrawa Park is on-lead. There is no off-leash beach at Broadbeach itself, with the nearest sand runs at The Spit or Palm Beach. A dedicated fenced option is Hedges Avenue Off Leash Dog Park, a few minutes north.
