Hedges Avenue Off Leash Dog Park

Hedges Avenue Off Leash Dog Park, known locally as The Pit, is a grassy off-leash reserve on Hedges Avenue between Broadbeach and Mermaid Beach, a short walk back from the beachfront. It is a social, open-field park shaded by mature trees and run by the City of Gold Coast.

The dog setup

Dogs are off-leash within the designated grassy area and must be under effective voice control throughout. The park is not fully fenced on the road side, so reliable recall genuinely matters here, and the leash goes back on for the surrounding pedestrian areas and the beach walkway.

Dogs stay out of nearby playgrounds and clear of patrolled swimming zones on the beach, and you are expected to carry bags and clean up on the spot.

The vibe

The tree cover is the park's best feature in summer, throwing real shade over the seating while the open middle stays in sun for a proper run. Regulars come at set times, so your dog will likely find familiar playmates.

Water fountains and bowls are on site, entry is wheelchair accessible, and public restrooms sit close by.

Pepsi: this is an unfenced social park, not a secure yard. If your dog has selective hearing near traffic, keep the lead on and save the free run for a fully fenced option.

Getting there

The park runs along Hedges Avenue between the beach and the housing. Free street parking fills fast at peak times, so allow a short walk. Buses run along the Gold Coast Highway, and the Broadbeach South G:link tram station is within walking distance.

Make a day of it

The beach walkway leads straight to the foreshore, so the park slots into an on-lead beach stroll either side of the off-leash session.

For brunch after, Banksy Bar and Kitchen is the well-known dog-friendly table nearby, and Pizzey Park Fenced Dog Park at Mermaid Waters is the fallback when you need a fully fenced yard.
