Sunday Coffee & Bagels Bokarina

Sunday Coffee & Bagels is a beach-style bagel and coffee house on Bokarina Boulevard, about a hundred metres back from the sand, open 5:30am to 2pm every day with bagels landing from 6am. The sheltered outdoor courtyard out the back is where dogs settle, and it is the natural breakfast stop after an early walk on Bokarina Beach.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor courtyard, which runs communal tables under umbrellas with plenty of room to settle a dog beside you. Water bowls are commonly put out. Keep your dog on lead and mindful of neighbours at the shared tables, since the seating is close by design. Early morning is the smoothest visit, which suits the cafe's hours anyway.

Bagels and the menu

Bagels are the point here: the Breaky Bagel stacks bacon, egg, cheese, rocket and tomato chutney, while the B.R.A.T (bacon, rocket, avocado, tomato, garlic aioli) and a smoked salmon with capers cover the savoury end, and peanut butter banana or blueberry handle the sweet. Around them: house-blend coffee and tasting flights, matcha lattes, the Sunday House Cookie, daily muffins, cold brew on tap plus cold brew sundaes, and nitro iced tea. Pastries are baked daily.

Getting there and parking

Street parking and small bays line Bokarina Boulevard, with side streets nearby if the morning rush has filled the front. The beach access paths and the coastal walk are a short stroll.

Close by with the dogs

Bokarina Dog Beach runs off-leash between beach accesses 245 and 247 from 5pm to 8am, so a dawn swim followed by bagels is the classic loop. Stay out of the dunes and the foreshore bushland reserve at all times, and keep the lead on through the day outside those hours. Back to Basics Organic Cafe is the other dog-friendly coffee stop in the suburb, and Stoa Bokarina handles the lunch end of the strip with alfresco tables for dogs.
