Nurcha Kawana

Nurcha Kawana on Kawana Way is a fully plant-based cafe and eco-lifestyle store on the Sunshine Coast, and one of the few vegan kitchens in the area that openly welcomes dogs at its outdoor tables. It works for brunch, a coffee stop or a grocery top-up in one trip.

The dog setup

Dogs join you in the outdoor seating area, which is where most of the action is on a sunny Birtinya morning. Keep your dog leashed and beside the table; the indoor store and dining space stay humans-only.

The cafe runs from 8am to 3:30pm daily with the kitchen closing around 2:30pm, and the adjoining store trades to 4pm, so aim for a morning visit if you want the full brunch menu.

The vibe

The menu is entirely plant-based: brunch plates like the Rosti Benny, açai bowls, yellow curry, a sweet cabinet and proper coffee. There is regular live music, and the attached store sells vegan cheeses, snacks and eco-homewares, so you can stock the pantry while the dog dozes at your feet.

Pepsi: order the açai bowl, take the outermost table so your dog has a clear view, and do the grocery run on the way out while the coffee still holds.

Getting there

The address is 566 Kawana Way, Birtinya QLD 4575, on the main spine road through the Kawana health and business precinct. There is street and centre parking along Kawana Way, and the cafe is a short drive from the Sunshine Motorway.

Make a day of it

For a run afterwards, Viridian Park Dog Park is nearby, and Decisions Cafe is another Birtinya coffee option that sets out dog treats. Further up the coast, Bokarina Dog Beach handles the off-leash swim.
