Alyra Cafe

Alyra Cafe occupies a prime corner of the Blacktown Showground at Richmond Road and Balmoral Street, which gives it something most western Sydney cafes cannot offer: a whole showground of grass and paths to walk off breakfast. The cafe itself does all-day trade from 7am to 4pm, seven days a week, and has built a name on a wide, family-friendly menu.

The dog setup

Staff come up repeatedly in reviews for being welcoming to dogs and their owners, so asking for a table with space for a muddy companion is an easy conversation. The showground setting means a pre-coffee walk is built in; do the loop of the grounds on leash, then settle into a table.

The vibe

The menu is broad by design. There is a kids menu and a play area for families, a halal menu for the neighbourhood, and the food itself gets consistent praise for presentation, from the rocket salad to a thickshake that people order as dessert. It is a buzzy, communal kind of place, louder than a boutique roaster and all the better for it on a weekend morning.

Getting there and parking

The corner of Richmond Road and Balmoral Street puts you right at the showground, and parking is available around the precinct. If you are planning a bigger dog day out, Orana Park Dog Fenced Dog Park over at Seven Hills adds a fully fenced run, and Cab's Cafe is a second dog-friendly coffee stop in the same direction.
