Olive Branch Cafe

Olive Branch Cafe is a family-run cafe in the Balhannah Junction Shopping Centre on Main Street, in the Adelaide Hills wine country between Hahndorf and Woodside. It is known for homestyle cooking, hearty homemade pies and all-day breakfast, and dogs are welcome on the covered outdoor patio while you eat.

The dog setup

Dogs join you on the covered outdoor patio; the indoor dining room and the kids play corner stay dog-free. Keep your dog leashed and beside the table, and mind the flow of shoppers moving through the centre. Staff are used to four-legged visitors and have been known to offer a treat, and the cafe has baked dog treats so your dog can order alongside you.

Pepsi: the patio is covered, so a drizzly Hills morning does not cancel breakfast plans with the dog.

The vibe

This is a family cafe first: there is an indoor children's play area, a kids menu and wheelchair accessible entry, parking and restrooms, and the kitchen handles vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free requests alongside the standard menu. The homemade pies and the weekend eggs Benny are what regulars come back for, the coffee is solid with almond milk on hand, and the venue is licensed with local wines and the occasional live music night, including a later 8pm close on Fridays.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits at Unit 12/84 Onkaparinga Valley Road in the Junction Shopping Centre, right on the main road through Balhannah, with free parking in the centre car park. Hours run 9am to 3pm Monday, 9am to 4pm Tuesday to Thursday and on weekends, and 9am to 8pm Friday, so a post-walk lunch is the reliable slot with the dog.

Balhannah Dog Park on River Street is the local off-lead option: a big fenced space with shade trees, walking trails and creek access where dogs can swim, though the natural setting means keeping an eye out for snakes in the warmer months.
