Wildgum Cafe

Wildgum Cafe sits in the gardens of Appin House, a wedding and events property at 150 Appin Road, Appin, in Sydney's south-west fringe between Campbelltown and Wollongong. The setting is the attraction: manicured lawns and native gardens you can settle into with a dog at your feet while you work through coffee and house-baked treats. Hours are limited, with the cafe trading Wednesday and Friday from 9:30am to 2:30pm and otherwise opening only around scheduled events, so check its Facebook page before a special trip.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor garden and patio seating on a leash, staying with you at your table. The indoor dining room is people only, so plan for outdoor seating from the start, particularly if the weather looks uncertain. Staff bring water out for dogs, and a puppaccino can be had on request, though bringing your own bowl is a sensible backup on a busy event day.

Pepsi: A garden this good deserves a full sniff inspection before you sit down. Keep the leash short near the tables, save the long line for the lawn.

Worth knowing

The menu runs to breakfast and lunch plates, barista coffee, and a rotating bake selection that includes gluten-free options; Visit Wollondilly notes the kitchen's sweets as a highlight. The wider Appin House grounds host high teas, twilight markets and seasonal events through the year, which bring crowds and can change when the cafe is open. Onsite parking is available but fills on event weekends, so arrive early.

While you're out there

The drive in from Campbelltown or Wollongong runs about twenty minutes via the M1 or Hume Highway.
