Wild Dog Shore is a quiet, natural shoreline on the southern edge of Lake Wellington, reached via Seacombe Road near the settlement of Seacombe. The single reason to make the trip is the seclusion: a shallow, sandy and reedy lake shore well away from crowds, where the scenery is remote Gippsland water and bush.
The rules. Wellington Shire Council keeps foreshore areas on-lead unless signage explicitly says otherwise. Pick up all waste. Keep dogs well clear of any designated children's playground, with a 50-metre buffer, and away from sensitive shorebird nesting sites along the shore.
What's there. Facilities are limited to none. There are no bins and no water taps, so bring your own water, bowls and waste bags. Parking is casual, on gravel and sandy tracks.
Getting there. From Sale, allow 20 to 30 minutes. Take Marathon Road, then Seacombe Road south-east toward Loch Sport. Multiple small dirt turnoffs lead to the shore between Seacombe and Plover Point, on the north side of the road as you head east. The road is unsealed.
The water. Lake Wellington is very shallow, which generally makes for safer wading. Wind can still build short, choppy waves. Watch for submerged snags, tree branches and sharp reeds along the shore line. Blue-green algae blooms occur here, so check VicEmergency before letting your dog swim, and be aware of snakes in warmer months.

When to go. Aim for a still, mild morning when the wind is low and the water is at its calmest. Check VicEmergency for algae warnings before you set out. This shore suits owners of steady, well-behaved dogs who want genuine quiet and remote water views, and who are comfortable packing out everything they bring.
