Dog Beach - Kedron Brook

Dog Beach at Kedron Brook is Gordon Park's stretch of the Kedron Brook off-leash corridor, reached via McCord Street or the Montrose Street bridge. The draw is the freshwater creek itself, with shallow, sandy banks where dogs can wade and swim off-leash along a long, open green track.

The rules. The area is largely unfenced along the creek, so dogs need reliable recall before you let them off-leash here. You're expected to keep dogs under effective voice control, stop any nuisance barking, and pick up after them, bins are provided but it pays to carry your own bags too.

What's there. Picnic shelters sit at either end of the strip, waste bins are spaced along the path, and shade is only moderate, so parts of the walk are exposed to full sun. There is no fencing separating the creek from the path, so supervise dogs closely near the water.

Getting there. Free street parking is available on McCord Street and the surrounding blocks. The park is close enough to Lutwyche Road bus routes to walk in from a stop if you are relying on transit. Because it is a freshwater brook rather than a tidal beach, there are no tides to plan around, though water levels and mud can rise noticeably after rain.

Nearby with the dogs. Nana & Da's, a few blocks off the Lutwyche Road end, is a known dog-friendly stop for coffee after a swim.

Weekday mornings are the quiet window; afternoons and Sunday evenings draw the biggest crowds. Summer sun is the main watch-out, with limited shade through the middle of the day, so an early or late visit is kinder on paws and temperaments alike.
