Kings Beach is one of Bowen's designated off-leash areas, a quiet sandy stretch on the town's southern side where dogs can run and swim without a lead, as long as they come back when called.

The rules. Dogs are permitted off-leash within the marked Kings Beach zone but must stay under effective voice control at all times. Leash up on the approach paths and in the car park, and away from the sand you're back on-leash. Waste bags aren't guaranteed at every access point, so bring your own and bin it.

What's there. Natural shade from palm trees along the back of the beach, free street parking nearby, and public toilets a short walk away. Don't expect a dog wash or fenced run, this is a natural beach setup rather than a purpose-built dog park.

Getting there. Kings Beach sits off Bowen's southern coast road network, a few minutes' drive from the town centre via Golf Links Road and Seaview Street. Public transport is limited, so driving is the practical option. Parking is free and generally easy to find outside weekends.

Nearby with the dogs. Earthbar Cafe & Emporium on Banyan Drive has covered outdoor seating and keeps treats on hand. Haydens Hut on Leichhardt Street also welcomes dogs. For a stay, Rose Bay Beach Caravan Park is right across from the beach, and Queens Beach Motor Hotel is a short drive away.

Watch the tide before you commit to a long run, the dry sand narrows fast as the water comes in and some entry points get steep at high tide.

Weekday mornings are the quietest time to visit, and low to mid tide gives the most sand to work with. A relaxed, uncrowded pick for an easy beach walk rather than a big-name destination.
