Simon Tolley Cellar Door & Accommodation

Simon Tolley is a working cool-climate vineyard on Bird In Hand Road in Woodside, with a rustic cellar door pouring pinot noir, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc from a relaxed deck and lawn overlooking the vines. Dogs are genuinely welcome here, and the winery leans into it with a monthly dog-focused event called Pinot and Pooch.

The dog setup

Leashed dogs are welcome across the outdoor lawn and deck areas, and visitors report dogs being allowed inside the tasting room too, though indoor access can shift with weather and event setups, so confirm on arrival. Water bowls and treats are typically available for visiting dogs. On the third Sunday of the month, Pinot and Pooch lays on complimentary dog treats and a guided vineyard walk, making it the best day to time a visit around.

The vibe

The cellar door feels smaller and quieter than the bigger Adelaide Hills names, with a kitchen built for grazing boards and a friendly team that pays attention to the four-legged guests. The wines are classic cool-climate Hills: pinot noir, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc, best enjoyed on the lawn with a platter between two people and one dog asleep under the table.

Pepsi: a walk through the vines, free treats and the whole lawn to supervise. Pinot and Pooch Sundays are my favourite day.

Getting there and parking

The cellar door is at 278 Bird In Hand Road, Woodside, with on-site parking and wheelchair-accessible access. It is an easy drive from both Adelaide and the surrounding Hills towns, so it slots neatly into a day of cellar doors or a Woodside lunch stop.

Close by with the dogs

Keep the day going with Artwine and Petaluma nearby, or coffee and a florist browse at Hope Blooms Cafe in Charleston. Emma and Ivy in Lobethal covers brunch.

One important caveat: the Simon Tolley Lodge accommodation on the same property does not take pets, so plan this as a cellar-door visit and book pet-friendly stays elsewhere in the Hills.
