Lenton Brae

Lenton Brae is a family-owned cellar door at 3887 Caves Road in Wilyabrup, and it is one of the rare Margaret River cellar doors that welcomes dogs inside as well as out. Tastings happen in an architect-designed room with big windows over the valley, and in winter your dog gets a rug of their own beside the fireplace.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome inside the cellar door and out on the lawn. Inside, staff lay out dog rugs near the fireplace for cooler days; outside there is shade on the lawn, water bowls and even tennis balls for a throw between flights. Staff usually keep treats on hand, and the estate has its own resident winery dogs, so a friendly greeting is part of the deal. Keep yours leashed and reasonably composed around the locals.

Worth knowing

Tastings carry a modest fee, generally around ten dollars, usually redeemed against a bottle purchase. The range runs three tiers from the Trellis wines up to Reserve and Museum releases, with semillon sauvignon blanc, chenin blanc and the chardonnay and cabernet the classics to try. Food is a build-your-own cheese and charcuterie platter assembled from local produce in the on-site deli, and platter days can be limited to part of the week, so confirm food availability before you count on lunch. Open daily 10am to 5pm, with bookings generally only needed for groups of six or more.

Getting there and parking

The cellar door sits on Caves Road in the middle of the Wilyabrup strip, with parking right at the door. It slots easily into a tasting loop between the Caves Road cellar doors, and the drive from Margaret River township takes about fifteen minutes.

Close by with the dogs
