Fishbone Wines

Fishbone Wines is a family-owned Wilyabrup estate on Harmans Mill Road that pairs a boutique cellar door with a Japanese-inspired restaurant, set on a 165-acre property of gently sloping vineyard. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome on the property, which makes it a rare Margaret River booking where a tasting and a proper meal can share the same dog-friendly afternoon.

The dog setup

Dogs join you in the open-air courtyard and outdoor seating, not inside the restaurant or cellar door. The space is relaxed and vineyard-facing, and staff are generally accommodating out there. Bring a lead, bring a water bowl, and check in with staff on arrival since seating depends on how busy the kitchen is.

The vibe

The drawcard is Fishbone Kitchen, a refined Japanese menu of sushi, sashimi and sharing plates built to match the wines, with the kitchen tending to wrap up mid-afternoon. Tastings at the cellar door cover the Margaret River range, from the estate staples to the premium Fishbone label, in a casual, unfussy room.

Pepsi: book the courtyard table for lunch, settle the dog in the shade, and work through a tasting while the kitchen is still firing.

Getting there and parking

Find it at 422 Harmans Mill Road, Wilyabrup, at the corner with Tom Cullity Drive and easily reached off Caves Road. On-site parking is available, open daily from 10am to 4:30pm.

Pair it with

Rustico at Hay Shed Hill on the same road is very dog-friendly with water bowls and treats, and Stormflower Vineyard is a nearby organic option. The surrounding country is rural and quiet for a short on-lead walk between stops.
