Buller Wines

Buller Wines on Federation Way (off Three Chain Road) is a historic, family-owned winery with expansive lawns, a distillery and the Pavilion Restaurant. It is one of the more openly dog-friendly cellar doors in Rutherglen, with room indoors and out, which makes it a dependable stop whatever the weather. Note it is a separate operation from the smaller Andrew Buller Wines on Jacks Road.

The dog setup. Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome at the cellar door and across the outdoor deck and lawns. The spacious lawn and shaded deck are the easy choice in fine weather. There is no fee for bringing your dog, and water bowls are available. Dogs are best left at home during large events and festivals, when the crowds make it stressful.

Known for. Historic Rutherglen Muscat and Topaque, a broad range of table wines, and in-house gin tastings (a paddle of five). The Pavilion Restaurant overlooks the vineyards and runs Wednesday to Sunday, with build-your-own cheese platters available daily.

Getting there and parking. The address is 2804 Federation Way, Rutherglen, easily reached and with ample on-site parking, including space for larger vehicles.

Nearby with the dogs. The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail nearby is good for an on-lead walk, and Wahgunyah's riverside park is a short drive for a stretch by the Murray. Several neighbouring wineries also welcome dogs outdoors.

Best on a quiet, fine weekday or out of festival season. Bring your own bowl as backup. Good for most dogs, with a lawn big enough for the bouncy ones.
