Chambers Rosewood Winery & Vineyards

Chambers Rosewood is a sixth-generation working winery at 178 Barkly Street, on the edge of Rutherglen and a five-minute drive from the main strip. First established in 1858, it is rustic and unpretentious, and you may catch bottling happening while you taste. For dog owners it is an easy, low-key stop with a covered patio to sit out of the sun.

The dog setup

Dogs on a lead are welcome outdoors and on the covered patio, and water bowls are provided on site with no fee for bringing your dog. The indoor cellar door space is generally kept for humans, so plan to taste on the patio or the lawn. Keep the lead on throughout; this is a working property, and seating can shift with weather or private functions, so a quick check ahead is worth it on a long drive.

What it pours

The reputation rests on heavily awarded Muscat and Topaque, plus regional rarities such as a Shiraz and Mondeuse blend you will not easily find elsewhere. Tastings are generous and unhurried, guided by staff who know the historic vintages, and a cheese board makes the patio linger longer.

Getting there and parking

The cellar door is on Barkly Street at the town edge, with plenty of casual on-site parking right by the vineyard. Doors run 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, closed Sundays. A fine, quieter weekday suits a dog best, when the patio is calm and the tasting room not crowded.
