What visitors mention
Chambers Rosewood is a sixth-generation, working winery on Barkly Street, on the edge of Rutherglen and a five-minute drive from the main strip. First established in 1858, it is rustic and unpretentious, and you may catch bottling happening while you taste. For dog owners it is an easy, low-key stop with a covered patio to sit out of the sun.
The dog setup. Dogs are welcome on a lead outdoors and on the covered patio. The indoor cellar door space is generally off-limits to pets, so plan to taste on the patio or lawn. There is no fee for bringing your dog, and water bowls are provided on site.
Known for. World-class, heavily awarded Muscat and Topaque, plus regional rarities you will not find easily elsewhere, including a Shiraz and Mondeuse blend. Tastings are generous, unhurried and guided by staff who know the historic vintages well.
Getting there and parking. The cellar door is at 178 Barkly Street, on the town edge with plenty of casual on-site parking right by the vineyard.
Nearby with the dogs. Lake Moodemere nearby is a calm spot for a stroll, and Rutherglen's main-street cafes seat dogs outside. Several other regional wineries also welcome dogs in their outdoor areas if you are making a day of it.
Best on a quieter, fine day when the patio is calm. Bring your own bowl as backup. Good for relaxed dogs happy in a working, slightly busy setting.
