The Berry Farm

The Berry Farm is a working farm, cafe and cellar door on Bessell Road in Rosa Glen, about 15 minutes from Margaret River. Dogs are welcome across the gardens and outdoor cafe seating, with water bowls and tie-up hooks near the cellar door, which makes it one of the region's easier winery stops to plan around a dog.

The dog setup

Dogs stay on lead throughout the property and are welcome on the outdoor tables and verandas around the Cottage Cafe, where water bowls are set out. The Cottage Cafe and cellar door interiors are off-limits to dogs, but tie-up hooks near the cellar door entrance let you secure your dog briefly for a quick tasting; better still, bring a second person to hold the leash. There is no entry fee for dogs, and you are expected to clean up after them.

Pepsi: the hooks are handy for a fast tasting but do not leave a dog unattended on one. Pack a shade mat too, because the outdoor tables can sit in full sun.

The vibe

Devonshire tea and scones are the signature, alongside chutneys, preserves, liqueurs and sparkling wines from the cellar door, all set in landscaped gardens with shady trees and the odd blue wren through the hedges. It suits a slow afternoon wander rather than a serious tasting circuit.

Getting there and parking

The farm is about 15 kilometres southeast of central Margaret River via Rosa Glen Road, a scenic but winding drive, so take it easy around dusk when wildlife is moving. Parking is free and on-site but fills quickly on weekends and public holidays, so arriving early pays off. The farm opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm and closes Mondays.
