Big Valley Campsite

Big Valley Campsite is a farm-stay caravan park in Rosa Glen, a few minutes inland from Margaret River town, where camping is built around the working-farm experience: animal feeding, a camp kitchen, hot showers and wide grassy sites. It is also one of the few places in the region with a dedicated off-leash dog run on site, which puts it near the top of the list for travellers camping with a dog in wine country.

Dogs at the campsite

Dogs are welcomed as part of the family, and the designated dog run is the one place they can go lead-free. Everywhere else on the property, leads stay on, and the reason is standing right in front of you: guinea pigs and chickens roam free across the farm, and loose dogs and free-range animals do not mix. Dogs must not be left unattended at your site at any point, so this works best for campers who have someone around most of the day. The policy is site-based rather than an indoor stay, so campers and caravanners are the core audience rather than cabin guests. Confirm site fees and any pet surcharge when you book.

A practical routine: give your dog the run first thing in the morning, then keep the lead on for circuits of the property while you do the animal feeding rounds with the kids.

Wine country with a dog

The Rosa Glen pocket has dog-friendly cellar doors close by. The Berry Farm on Bessell Road, right in Rosa Glen, welcomes dogs on lead in its garden areas and verandahs while you work through berry wines and the boysenberry pies. The Shire of Augusta Margaret River also designates proper off-lead coastal stretches: Gnarabup Back Beach has an off-lead run along the northern cliff face, and the northern end of Prevelly toward Surfers Point is approved off-lead, away from the main swimming beach near the White Elephant cafe.

Beyond the Berry Farm, Si Vintners is another Rosa Glen cellar door and Brookfield Dog Park in town is the fenced fallback. The Wadandi Track at Cowaramup is a flat rail-trail walk for an on-lead leg stretch.
