Tamburlaine Organic Wines

Tamburlaine at 358 McDonalds Road is one of Australia's largest organic wine producers, and the Hunter cellar door reflects it: certified organic, vegan-friendly wines poured in a relaxed, educational setting. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor courtyard and around the vineyard grounds, which makes it a natural stop on a McDonalds Road loop.

The dog setup

Well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome in the courtyard and the surrounding vineyard areas, and staff happily run the whole tasting out there, so you never miss anything by staying outside with the dog. The indoor tasting room is generally people-only. Water bowls are often put out for visiting dogs, though a backup bowl in the bag is smart on hot days. Lead on at all times and keep your dog considerate of other guests; the courtyard is shared space.

Worth knowing

The cellar door opens daily from 9am to 5pm except Christmas Day, and walk-ins are welcome, with bookings suggested for larger groups. The tastings lean into the organic story: plant-based fining agents, minimal intervention, and staff who enjoy explaining the process as much as pouring. The range spans classic Hunter semillon and shiraz plus some outliers, and the cheese platters pair well with a slow courtyard session.

Getting there and parking

McDonalds Road is one of Pokolbin's main wine strips, and Tamburlaine is a few minutes along it with free on-site parking. The courtyard is reached on the level from the car park, so arrival with a dog is easy.
