What visitors mention
Oakvale Wines at 120 Deasys Road is one of the oldest working wineries in the Hunter, a boutique, rustic cellar door that genuinely makes a fuss of dogs, pats, water and treats included. Better still, dogs are allowed inside the cellar door during tastings as well as on the outdoor lawns, so it handles a hot or cold day without leaving the dog out.
Where the dog goes. Dogs are welcome inside the cellar door for the tasting and out on the outdoor tasting areas and lawns. Staff often have water bowls and treats ready, so the dog is genuinely catered for. Pick the spot that suits the weather.
The rules. Keep the dog on a lead and well-behaved around other guests and any resident pets. Booking ahead is recommended, more so with a dog, to lock in a comfortable spot.
What is there. Oakvale leans into organic and biodynamic, small-batch, hand-crafted wines, with a nice community angle: a portion of tasting fees goes toward wine produced for Meals on Wheels in the Hunter. It is heritage and unpretentious rather than slick.
Getting there. 120 Deasys Road, reachable via Hermitage Road or Broke Road, with on-site parking close to the cellar door.

When to go. Book ahead, especially weekends, so your dog-friendly spot is held. Mid-week is quietest for a relaxed tasting with the dog.
