Byrne Farm

Byrne Farm is a family-owned cellar door at 841 Cargo Road in Nashdale, set on 40 acres high on the slopes of Mount Canobolas at around 900 metres, about a 10 minute drive from Orange. It pours cool-climate Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and sparkling, and it is listed among the Orange region's pet friendly cellar doors, so the dog can come along for the afternoon.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on the grounds with you while you taste, and the farm setting works in your favour: tastings happen outdoors, with tables on the grass where a settled dog can lie beside you. Keep your dog on a lead and supervised around the vineyard and farm grounds, and bring a travel water bowl and treats since this is a working farm rather than an amenity-rich venue. Resident farm dogs are part of the atmosphere, so a calm greeting matters.

The vibe

This is a genuine farm enterprise rather than a polished wine complex. Alongside the vines, the family grows cherries, peaches, figs and apples, and that estate fruit turns up with the cheese platters that are a fixture of a tasting here. Bookings can be made ahead for a more personalised run-through, and the family feel is what regulars come back for.

Getting there and parking

Follow Cargo Road out of Orange towards Nashdale; the cellar door is at number 841 with on-site parking at the door. Drive slowly on the way in, as wildlife and farm machinery share the driveway. It opens Thursday to Sunday, 11am to 5pm, and closes Monday to Wednesday, so plan around that and check ahead in winter.
