Byrne Farm is a small, family-owned cellar door on Cargo Road in Nashdale, set on 40 acres high on the northern slopes of Mt Canobolas at around 900 metres. It is an easy, relaxed stop with your dog, provided you are happy to sit outside on the grass.

The dog setup. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the outdoor spaces and on the grassy lawn, where you tap tables on the grass for your tasting while your dog settles beside you. Dogs are not allowed inside the cellar door for food-safety reasons. Bring your own travel water bowl and treats, and keep your dog on a short lead given the outdoor seating.

Good to know. The focus is cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, backed by estate-grown fruit like cherries, peaches, figs and apples that turns up in the food. Cheese platters are a staple, and personalised winery tours can be booked ahead. Reviewers highlight the family feel and the complimentary cheeseboard.

Getting there and parking. The address is 841 Cargo Road, Nashdale, about a 10 minute drive from Orange, with on-site parking. Drive slowly on entry, as there can be wildlife and farm machinery about. It typically opens Thursday to Sunday, 11am to 5pm, so check hours before you set out.

Nearby with the dogs. Mortimer's Wines is a short distance away in Nashdale and also welcomes dogs, and Mt Canobolas has walking trails a short drive on for a leg-stretch (check the reserve rules for dogs first).

Best in fine weather, since seating is on the lawn. Confirm the open days and bring your own bowl and treats. Good for calm dogs happy to lie beside a table.
