The Cellar by Gilbert (Gilbert Family Wines)

The Cellar by Gilbert is the Gilbert Family Wines cellar door on Ulan Road, a boutique seated tasting a short drive out of Mudgee. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor, tree-shaded seating, but with one catch worth knowing up front: flag that you are bringing a dog when you book, so they seat you outside.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the shaded outdoor tables only, kept on a lead. Because tastings here are seated, tell them you have a dog at the time of booking so you are allocated an outdoor table rather than turning up and finding no space. Water bowls are usually available on request, but bringing your own takes the risk out of it.

Max: Seated tastings and dogs only mix if the booking says so. One line about the dog when you reserve saves the whole afternoon.

The vibe

This is a small-batch, family operation overseen by vigneron Simon Gilbert, known for traditional-method sparkling flights alongside the still range, with platters to share and a vineyard outlook from the outdoor seating. Quieter tables tend to be earlier in the day, and it suits calm dogs that settle at a table rather than roam.

Getting there and parking

It sits on Ulan Road, roughly ten minutes from the centre of Mudgee, with on-site gravel parking beside the cellar door. Doors open from 10am daily, running to 2pm on Mondays and 5pm the rest of the week.

Lowe Family Wine Co at Eurunderee is a dog-friendly Mudgee stop, and Robert Stein Winery rounds out a Ulan Road loop with a farm attached. The Cudgegong River park in town is an easy shaded walk to bookend the day.
